Pics of the day

Rachel is definitely the main blogger here at Elegance.  But every once in awhile i’ll chip in a few posts here and there.  I’m streaky…i’ll pump out a bunch in a row and then i’ll take a little break.  I blog more at my personal blog.  Anyway…here are a few images for the day.  I have a ton of stuff ’starred’ in my google reader that I need to get rid of.

Fabulous Friday

So i’m getting ready to go home for the day…going to see Bond tonight…and I realized that today is fabulous friday.  So here are a few fabulous friday videos.

Meet the Funky Fresh Senior Choir.  They do weddings, private parties and barmitzvahs.  My favorite is Nelly, “Hot in Here” (go to 4:06 into it).

Then there’s the dude that gets stuck in a balloon.  Hilarious. Came close to becoming the funniest death caught on camera. Good thing he comes out okay.

Then there’s the worlds stupidest excercise machine. The video might have been made for potential investors as there is a part where it flashes “Now is the time to invest.” Ha!

2 years

Yesterday was our anniversary.  It’s been 2 years now since we’ve been married. Oh how quickly time has gone by.  I would have put this post up yesterday except it was go go go.  We had lunch together at the Dew.  Then later we went to Happy Sumo and had some delicious sushi.  Then we went to The Quarry and did some fun indoor rock climbing (a lot of fun!).  Got some frozen yogurt at Froyo.  Came home and watched a few shows (Eli Stone, Prison Break).  Chilled the rest of the night.

My wife is amazing. I love her so much.  I don’t know how I got so lucky.  Everyday I thank God in my prayers for such a wonderful soul mate.  I am so blessed.  I look forward to an eternity with her.  What a special person she is. I can’t even begin to describe how much I love her…so i’ll stop here.

New CEO at Zinch

As many of you have already heard, we have a new CEO at Zinch. Her name is Anne Dwane and she is a rock star.  Harvard b-school.  Cofounder of Military.com.  Sold it to Monster.  Has been with Monster for years as a General Manager.  Now joining us.  We’ve known Anne for about 9 months now; the more we get to know her, the more we like her.  You can check out her bio, her LinkedIn profile, and her Facebook Profile to better understand what she’s all about.  We are excited to have her and we think she compliments our team well.

Everyone who knows her would agree that she is fun to be around, easy to work with, and very thoughtful in her approach.  She’s a proven leader, a seasoned entrepreneur, tough when she needs to be tough, and an all-around talented individual.

We believe Zinch has an enormous amount of potential.  Our team is full of young, hard working, scrappy entrepreneurs.  Much of our talent is raw –ready to be enhanced, enabled, and amplified.  We believe that Anne has exactly what it takes to achieve just that and to help our team stay focused and disciplined as we scale.

This is a huge step for us.  Huge.  We didn’t take this decision lightly.

Nonetheless, we know this is the right step for Zinch.  We want Zinch to succeed more than anything.  We want it to reach its full potential and to really make the impact on education that it can.  To do that, we need to surround ourselves with people who are better, stronger, and smarter than us (especially our leader).  Anne certainly is.  We are happy to have Anne join our team and we are excited to embrace the challenges ahead. We trust her and believe in her.  She is the new captain of our ship.

As Obama says, this is change we can believe in.

Church Responds to Prop 8 Results

First off, I have a bunch of gay friends (mainly from back at Princeton) and I appreciate their differences and enjoy their friendships as I much as I do with anyone.  I haven’t really said much on this blog regarding Prop 8, the controversial constitutional amendment that bans same-sex marriage in California.

But today The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released a statement regarding results of the Prop 8 vote from yesterday.  This statement from the church resonates well with my feelings and thoughts on the whole issue.  Read the entire release here, but below is the excerpt I really like:

It is important to understand that this issue for the Church has always been about the sacred and divine institution of marriage — a union between a man and a woman.

Allegations of bigotry or persecution made against the Church were and are simply wrong.  The Church’s opposition to same-sex marriage neither constitutes nor condones any kind of hostility toward gays and lesbians.  Even more, the Church does not object to rights for same-sex couples regarding hospitalization and medical care, fair housing and employment rights, or probate rights, so long as these do not infringe on the integrity of the traditional family or the constitutional rights of churches.

Some, however, have mistakenly asserted that churches should not ever be involved in politics when moral issues are involved.  In fact, churches and religious organizations are well within their constitutional rights to speak out and be engaged in the many moral and ethical problems facing society.  While the Church does not endorse candidates or platforms, it does reserve the right to speak out on important issues.

It’s never been about rights; it’s always been about protecting the institution of marriage.  People may not agree with that but that’s always been the position.

Rhino Attack Drill

A zoo in Tokyo practices dealing with an escaped rhino, by dressing a couple guys up in a comical rhino suit. The dramatic music in this video is excellent.

Apparently runaway rhinos can be corralled using rope netting.

Basketball

So basketball season is coming up.  And I gotta get my booty into shape. Church ball. City league. College Hoops. NBA. It’s that time of year.  B-ball is fun.  I’m starting to play more nowadays cuz I gotta have my game on when seasons come around.  I’ll be playing mainly just church ball and city league.  And of course i’ll be watching pro and college hoops.  I’m excited.

Look how athletic I once was. I used to be able to ball. Now i’m just fat.

And Kyle Korver is a girly man. Jazz better step it up this year and he better be able to hit the J when called on.
